Members of a private trust donated a 60-bed maternity ward building to the Mandya Institute of Medical Sciences (MIMS) here on Monday. Devamma Puttachi Siddegowda and Dr V T Susheela Jayaram Trust have donated the building. As the maternity ward of MIMS hospital is always short of beds and sometimes even two patients are accommodated on the same bed, the hospital administration had requested the trust to construct a maternity ward to ease the situation. The trust, which decided to construct a ground floor initially, later extended the building with one more floor by accommodating 60 beds.

Speaking to DH, member K S Krishnappa said, "We constituted the trust in the memory of my father, writer Seethasutha. We had constructed a dialysis unit for MIMS in 2014. Now we have constructed a maternity ward."
