<p>The police shot a history-sheeter in the legs as he assaulted and stabbed two of the officers who came with the team to arrest him at Cottonpet.</p>.<p class="bodytext">According to the police, Nirmal alias Roopesh was involved in more than three cases and had been absconding for three-and-a-half years. He has several warrants, court attachments and proclamations in his name.</p>.<p class="bodytext">Nirmal was conspiring with his associates to murder a fellow criminal, Atush, in Cottonpet.</p>.<p class="bodytext">Based on information, the Cottonpet police dispatched a team to arrest Nirmal, who was sighted at the Lingayat graveyard opposite the Deer Park.</p>.<p class="bodytext">When the officers reached the spot and ordered Nirmal to surrender, he attacked police staff Abdul Rehman and stabbed another officer Kumar in the hand. Cottonpet police inspector Kumaraswamy fired two rounds at Nirmal's legs in self-defence. One of the bullets hit the history-sheeter's left leg and immobilised him.</p>.<p class="bodytext">The police shifted the wounded officers and Nirmal to a private hospital, where all of them are recovering.</p>.<p class="bodytext">The Cottonpet police have registered a case of assault and are awaiting Nirmal's recovery to interrogate him.</p>
