A 63-year-old retired tahsildar reportedly committed suicide by hanging herself at her flat in Basaveshwaranagar 4th Block, North Bengaluru. The incident emerged on Saturday night after neighbours called the police.
Nagarathna was unmarried and lived alone.
Neighbours grew suspicious as they hadn't seen her for the past three days. A foul smell also emanated from the house. They called the police who rushed to the spot and broke open the door only to find Nagarathna hanging from the ceiling. She did not leave any suicide note, a senior police officer said.
Nagarathna's relatives told the police she was depressed as she was alone and had no one to spend time with. After retirement, she started visiting an ashram and going on a pilgrimage but she still felt lonely. She also suffered from various health problems. Her relatives didn't raise any suspicion about the death.
The Basaveshwaranagar police are, however, investigating the circumstances of her death and whether it was indeed a suicide.
