The National Green Tribunal on Thursday issued a bailable warrant against the managing director of real estate developer Mantri Techzone for failing to appear before it in a matter related to the maintenance of the buffer zone around Agara and Bellandur Lakes in Bengaluru.

The green bench, headed by Justice Jawad Rahim, took coercive action by issuing the warrant after finding that MD Sushil Kumar Mantri did not appear before it. The bench did not allow a plea for adjournment made by the counsel representing the company.

NGO Namma Bengaluru Foundation objected to deferring the hearing, saying the developer has not complied with the directions issued by the panel.

The tribunal fixed the matter for May 2.

The panel had earlier asked the real estate developer to deposit Rs 5 lakh as cost, and explain by March 20 as to why the compliance report was not filed. Subsequently, the cost was deposited by the firm, but the MD did not personally appear before it.

The NGT's principal bench had on May 4, 2016, directed that a buffer zone and green belt of 75 metres in case of lakes, and 50 metres for primary, 35 metres for secondary and 25 metres for tertiary rajakaluves has to be maintained.
