"There is a conspiracy by the BJP behind the fast unto death initiated by Amrithadhara Gaushala head Rajaram Bhat. The fast unto death was launched even before the police initiated a probe. There is a need to conduct a thorough probe into it," said DCC spokesperson A C Vinayraj.

Speaking to reporters here on Monday, he said that in spite of the model code of conduct being in force, Bhat had initiated a fast unto death, thus stoking communal feelings of the people.

Further, the BJP leaders and activists who visited the site have issued provocative statements, he alleged.

"Why did Bhat allow such provocative speeches in his premises?" he asked.

"Holding Satyagraha is one's right. However, it should not be used for political purposes," he added

"Though Bhat claimed that there are CCTV cameras and a watchman posted in the gaushala, did the watchman have a phone or not when thieves took away the cattle? Why did he not alert the others? Why did the watchman fail to notice the registration number of the vehicle used for transporting the cow?" he asked.

Memorandum submitted

He said that a memorandum has been submitted to the Mangaluru City Police Commissioner to bring out the truth.

"In spite of the police arresting two people in connection with the theft of cattle, what was the need for continuing the fast unto death?" he sought to know.
