A close relative of MDMK chief Vaiko immolated self on Friday allegedly over the Cauvery issue. Saravana Suresh, son of Vaiko's brother-in-law, immolated himself by pouring petrol on his body in Virudhunagar on Friday morning.
The man, who has suffered 90% burn injuries, was immediately admitted to a private hospital in Madurai. Vaiko, who visited him at the hospital, said the victim had told his wife that he was upset after hearing the MDMK chief's speech on Cauvery issue on Thursday.
"I appeal to people not to end their lives on the issue," Vaiko said. The incident came close on the heels of a 25-year-old man ending his life on Cauvery issue.
