Container truck rams into parked truck: two charred to death

Two men were charred to death when a driver of a container truck rammed the vehicle into a truck parked on the roadside near an RTO check-post in Attibele towards Electronics City in the early hours on Friday.

The vehicles caught fire following fuel spillage due to collision impact, the police suspect.

The deceased have been identified as Velumurugan (24), a native of Tamil Nadu and Bilal (22), a native of Bihar, the police said.

According to the police, the RTO officials signalled a long chassis truck carrying a blade of a windmill turbine at the RTO check post in Attibele.

As the driver stopped the vehicle in response to the officials, the container truck driven by Velumurugan coming from behind ran into the stationary truck.

Bilal, a machine operator, was sitting inside the cabin in the long chassis truck. The moment the container truck collided with the parked vehicle, the fire broke out inside the cabin and Bilal was charred to death. The fire also soon spread to the driver's cabin of Velmurugan, who was trapped inside the container truck, the police said.

The container carrying cloths was heading towards Chennai from Bengaluru while the long chassis truck was coming from Doddaballapura and was on its way to Tamil Nadu, the police added.

Attibele police have registered a case and are investigating.
