PG Council to be formed soon: VC

Choice based credit system to be discussed on May 15

Shedding light on the same during the Academic Council meeting on Thursday, Vice Chancellor Prof T C Shivashankarmurthy said that University will constitute a ‘PG Council’ to have a larger discussion on the issues pertaining to the University. The PG Council will have University Professors, HoDs, Statutory Officers and Board of Council Chairpersons as members and the Council will hold its first meeting on May 15, 2010 to discuss over the Choice Based Credit System.

“The issues will be first discussed in the PG Council and will be later brought up for discussion in the Academic Council,” the VC said and informed that Mysore University has PG Council functioning successfully. However, one such PG Council had met once under the tenure of Prof S Gopal and was later wound up for reasons unknown.

Challenged valuation

Mangalore University is contemplating to bring in the concept of Challenged Valuation. Under this system, the PG student who is dissatisfied with his marks can opt for Challenged Valuation. “The student can avail his answer sheet and have a look at the valuation. If there is over 20 per cent difference in valuation, then action can be taken on the evaluator.

Challenged evaluation is more ‘democratic’ in nature and it will be brought into force after being approved in the Academic Council,” the VC said. He further said that if all goes on well, then the May, 2010 examination system will be computerised and the results will be online. However, if this does not happen then the system will be in place for November examination.  “The UG and PG examination time table is already online. By May 20, 2010, the revaluation results will be on the website,” the VC said.
