Ex-MLA assaults CMC chief, commissioner

The police have registered a case in this connection against four including former legislator M Bhaktavatsalam.

Khan, Yerrappa and CMC member Manjula’s husband Rashid Khan were injured and admitted to the Government General hospital.
Khan, Yerrappa and Water Boad assistant engineer Ravindra visited Urigaon’s NT Block to inspect about providing water connection at 10 am.

They were inspecting regarding the complaint that water was being distributed only to NT Block’s Electrical Line, while the neighbouring Teluguline was deprived of water.
At this time Rashid Khan husband of CMC member Manjula raised objection about shifting the water connection line.

The arguments began heating up and president Rashid Khan was assaulted with a peg. Even as the news of the trouble spread, former legislator M Bhaktavatsalam and his associate Ramesh reached the spot and attacked Yerrappa who was holding a discussion, it is alleged.

The commissioner started bleeding from the nose and after being given first aid, he was admitted to the Government General hospital.
In the melee, the commissioner’s ring, chain, watch and glasses worth an estimated Rs 80,000 went missing.

Hundreds of women from N T Blocks  who came to the spot demanded the arrest of president Rashid Khan and commissioner Yerrappa. They alleged that these two had attacked Manjula’s husband Rashid Khan.
They staged a dharna in front of the Urigaon police station for nearly two hours. They demanded the presence of higher police officers to get them justice.
At the same time the CMC workers protesting against the attack on the president and the commissioner immediately started a dharna.
They locked up the office and all the employees staged a walkout.President Seenappa and district secretary Shashikumar said that action will be taken after the gram panchayat elections. Legislator Y Sampangi visited the hospital and discussed about the incident.
