Did CM's office prevent IPS officer from reporting for duty?

Last Updated 13 May 2010, 19:30 IST

According to sources, the official in the CMO called up Ravikantegouda minutes before he was about to move to South East office and directed him not to report for the duties as DCP. Ravikantegouda was relieved from service as DCP (Law & Order) Mysore City on Wednesday as he was earlier transferred as DCP, South East Division, Bangalore City.

An IPS officer, begging anonymity told Deccan Herald: “The question of the official in CMO preventing Ravikantegouda from reporting for duties never arises as he did not turn up at all. Hence, it is wrong to say that Ravikantegouda came to Bangalore to report for the duties. There is one week time for him to do so.”

However, Ravikantegouda was not available for comment as he did not attend the call.
Ravikantegouda, who was serving with the State Intelligence Wing, was posted at Mysore temporarily when communal clashes broke out there in April 2009. The DG & IGP Ajai Kumar Singh was impressed with Gowda’s performance and transferred him to Mysore.

An order was issued on May 5, 2010 transferring him from Mysore to North Division Bangalore City. A movement order was given to him on May 6. However, he was not relieved in view of Gram Panchayat polls. He was relived only on Wednesday.

At present, BNS Reddy is serving as DCP (North East Division). He was promoted as selection grade officer and is due for promotion as DIG in January next year.
