CET results may be out early

Last Updated 14 May 2010, 17:29 IST

“The evaluation of Optical Mark Recognition (OMR) sheets is in full swing. A considerable amount of work is already over. As per PU Board calendar of events, the CET results should be declared on May 25. In all probability, the results are likely to be out between May 20 to 25,”  PU Board Director Shankar Narayan told Deccan Herald. As many as 1.16 lakh students appeared for the CET on April 27 and 29.

However, Shankar Narayan chose not to zero in on a specific date. “The date of result announcement now depends on the publishing of Class XII results by central boards - CBSE and ICSE. We need to take into account marks secured by students in Class XII for drawing final CET results,” he added.

The Board requires at least a couple of days to go through results and draw final results of the CBSE and ICSE students. Normally, CBSE and ICSE declare Class XII results by May third week every year. The PU Board has communicated to both the boards about CET results, he added.

Tension and anxiety are mounting among students who appeared for test, particularly among those who have raised objections about wrong key answers, incorrect answer for some questions, etc. An experts’ committee will look into such objections before declaring the results.

The results of COMED-K UGET 2010-11 are likely to be announced on or before May 26. In all probability, the results would be out on May 26 as around 60 per cent of the OMR sheet evaluation is already over, sources in the COMED-K revealed.

Even as students await the results of the two exams, the once-forgotten BSC is looming large as an option.

“It’s a Catch-22 situation for us who appeared for both the CETs. With every passing day, tension is building up. Many of us have also applied for different BSc programmes as standby,” Soumyashree, a student said.

Another student Vishal Gaurav said: “If we fail to get the course and college we like due to CET results, then we will have an option of pursuing BSc.”

“The number of students seeking admission for BSc is pretty good this time around as many Degree colleges have received good number application forms. However, the  number of students aspiring to enroll for BSc will be clear after CET result as a few of students might discontinue and opt for professional courses,” said a principal of a degree colleges.
