Speaking to reporters after the meeting, Kanta said the Palike has appointed these pourakarmikas in June 2002. They are not hired through a contractor. So, they have to be paid salary. The Government is not ready to accept it. The ongoing protest will therefore, continue, he added.
The meeting was held at the CM’s home office Krishna. “The Government is insisting that pourakarmikas should first form self help groups for it to release the salary. But we are opposing it right from the beginning,” he stated.
