PC contradicts BJP claim over Muivah visit

Last Updated 15 May 2010, 17:23 IST

The Home Minister expressed surprise over the BJP demand to cancel the permission granted to Muivah to visit Manipur, saying no such permission has been accorded to the Muivah by the State government.

When contacted, BJP leader Prakash Javadekar told Deccan Herald that the Home Minister had not consulted Manipur Chief Minister Ibobi Singh over the issue (granting of permission to (Muivah). He said it was a unilateral decision of Chidambaram “like in the case of Telangana when the Anhdra Pradesh chief minister was not consulted”, Javadekar claimed.

“Manipur chief minster was also not consulted on the issue”, the BJP leader said.

On his part, the Home Minister said BJP leader Prakash Javadekar met him on Friday for a briefing on the Manipur developments and urged him to continue to deal with the situation with tact and understanding.

“I am, therefore, surprised and disappointed by the statement issued by Shri Prakash Javadekar yesterday”, he said referring to Javadekar’s demand for not granting permission to Muivah to visit his ancestral place in Manipur.

The Home Minister said the Centre had put Muivah’s request to visit his place in Manipur with the state government which decided that “such a visit would not be appropriate at this time”.
