A great response at Cannes

Last Updated 08 June 2009, 13:18 IST

With three successful market screenings at the Festival, the film market at Cannes was abuzz after the film received an incredible response and 100 per cent occupancy for its market screening at the Festival. The market at Cannes was bustling with international distributors and buyers ardently discussing Thanks Maa and looking forward to take this film to their respective countries.

Irfan Kamal, debutante director of Thanks Maa says, “The response that Thanks Maa has received from all the distributors at the market screening is phenomenal. I was pleasantly surprised with the kind of interest shown by foreign buyers towards an Indian film with such a sensitive topic.

The Festival authorities were keen to know more about the film and about 150 buyers across the world showed enthusiasm in taking Thanks Maa to their
countries. I sincerely hope that all this recognition helps me address this social issue with the world at large.”

Thanks Maa is based on a sensitive topic of abandoned children with truly an Indian connect.

Indian cinema is for sure leaping forward and Thanks Maa is indeed making that leap this year.

The film has also been nominated in two categories at the Edinburgh International Film Festival.
