Social audit in slums soon

Speaking at a seminar on ‘Implementation of BSUP-JNNURM housing projects in Bengaluru’ and the release of  ‘A Compendium of Government Schemes for the Urban Poor’ here, the secretary said there was lack of clarity on the issue of title deeds of dwelling units constructed by the slum board.

“Ownership was not given as it was observed that  many people had property holdings in their native villages, while continuing to live in slums. Title deeds was not given as many of the beneficiaries were found to rent out the housing unit allotted to them, after which they would again go and reside in another slum” said Kongawad.  The seminar also had presentations on BSUP implementation by grassroots organisations and community representatives.
