Transport Minister R Ashok said that if excess lifting of water from borewells in the City was stopped, government borewells which had gone dry would be recharged. Speaking to press persons, on Monday, Ashok said hundreds of private tankers had been making money exploiting the water crisis in the City.
“The private tankers do not bring water from outside Bangalore. They exploit borewells within the City limits for profit. If they stop their business many borewells in Bangalore will be recharged, which will solve the water crisis,” the minister said.
The minister said the government would soon decide on measures to curb the practice. The government would also constitute task forces in each constituency to address the drinking water crisis, he said.
