<p>Its net profit was Rs 1,184.89 crore in 2008-09. Consolidated net sales of the company increased to Rs 5,114.26 crore in 2009-10 from Rs 3,427.77 crore in 2008-09. Further, on a standalone basis, NHPC reported a net profit (after minority interest) of Rs 2,090.50 crore for 2009-10, nearly double of the Rs 1,075.22 crore profit of the previous financial year.<br />Meanwhile, the firm said that it may invest its surplus funds in the mutual funds market. NHPC, which currently invests in long-term securities such as PSU bonds and fixed deposit receipts, is mulling over putting its excess cash into PSU mutual funds with LIC and SBI.</p>
