The Asian Grand Prix series kicks off in Pune on June 1 before moving on to Bangalore on June 5 with the final leg scheduled in Chennai on June 9. “The warm-up track at the venue is almost complete and we will make sure everything is in place before the meet,” said KAA president Dr G Parameshwara at a press meet here on Tuesday.

“This is the second time Bangalore will be hosting the Asian Grand Prix after 2006, so we are experienced in this regard. The Indian Grand Prix will be held before the Asian event on June 4,” added Parameshwara.

Close to 200 athletes, including 30 from the host country, are expected to take part in the $11,000 prize money Asian GP, which will have a total of 15 events (8 for men and 7 for women). The meet will also double up as the selection trials for the Asian All Star Meet to be held on July 29 and 30 at New Delhi.

The organisers will conduct a torch relay with ‘preserve nature’ theme which will be flagged off from Vidhana Soudha on May 28 and cover six districts, with the State’s top athletes as the participants.
