Thieves carry away ATM

Gang of 15 makes off with 400-kg machine as security guard slept

The thieves dragged out the machine weighing about 400 kg and hoisted it onto their vehicle at 1.30 am before driving away, as the security guard on duty was fast asleep in an adjacent bank. At least 15 people came  in two vans and took away the machine. The police were informed about the incident only at 3 am. Around 1 am, the beat police had visited the kiosk and signed the patrol register.

The CCTV has recorded two people wearing helmets entering the kiosk. Soon after, the lights are turned off. This has made it difficult for investigators to identify the culprits, bank manager Kartik told reporters. The cash in the ATM is yet to be ascertained.

Two arrested

Kengeri police in City arrested two persons in a vehicle theft case and recovered two bikes and gold jewellery worth  Rs 2.30 lakh. The suspects are - Manju (25) from HSR Layout and Muttu (21) from Chandapura. The duo had struck at houses in Kengeri and were involved in robbery and vehicle theft cases as well.

Stolen bikes recovered

In another incident, Vijaynagar police arrested Lokesh (19) and Girish (19) from Vrishabhavathinagar and recovered 19 two-wheelers worth Rs five lakh. The suspects had used duplicate keys to lift the vehicles in Vijaynagar, Basaveshwarnagar, Rajajinagar, Kamakshipalya, Herohalli, Anjananagar, Nagarbhavi and KR Puram.  The police arrested them near bus stop when they were striking a deal to sell the stolen bikes.

Mantri Mall theft: 2 held

Malleshwaram police arrested two persons who had allegedly struck at an electronic store in Mantri Mall recently. The suspects were identified as Suleman (22) and Mohammad Mubarak (18) from Srirampura. The police recovered electronic gadgets worth Rs one lakh from them. The duo had managed to lift electronic gadgets from Planet Sports in Mantri Mall on May 17.

Killed in stove burst

A home maker was killed when a gas stove burst at her residence in Vijaynagar on Monday. The deceased was identified as Suma (26) a resident of MC Layout. The incident occurred around 2 pm when Suma was preparing food. She failed to respond to the treatment.

IBM student dies in mishap

A student of Indian Business Management was killed when he came under running train on Monday. The deceased was identified as Ranjith from Tamil Nadu. The accident occurred near Marathalli Ring Road when Ranjith was trying to cross over the track listening to music on Ipod on his cellphone, said the Byappanahalli police.

Youth commits suicide

A 28-year-old person committed suicide by hanging himself at his residence in Adarsh Nagar in Chamarajpet on Monday night in an inebriated condition. The deceased, Sharath, was an alcoholic. Reason for Sharath’s decision is not known, said the police.

In another incident in Chamarajpet, Mamatha (27) ended life by hanging herself at her house. Reason for  Mamatha’s decision is yet to be ascertained. She committed suicide when her parents were away in Rajajinagar for some work. Mamatha was a BCom graduate and was employed in a BPO, said the police.
