Pandemonium prevailed in the House as the Mayor moved a motion seeking approval of the Council on some subjects. Congress and JD(S) members stormed into well of the House raising slogans against the ruling BJP. It was their contention that the subjects cannot be cleared without constituting the standing committees. They alleged that the Palike was seeking approval “illegally.”

As the leader of the Ruling Party, Katte Satyanarayana began reading the proposal, leader of the Opposition M Nagaraj tore apart the paper he was reading. Soon Satyanarayana went to another table and the BJP corporators surrounded him to prevent any attempt by the Opposition to prevent him from reading the proposal. He succeeded in his task though his voice was lost in the din.  The Mayor adjourned the Council indefinitely as soon as the proposals were read.

Standing committees
On the other hand, Transport Minister R Ashok, speaking to reporters said that the elections to standing committees of the Palike would soon be held.
Ashok said that State Cabinet would take up increasing the number of members in committees in its next meeting. An amendment to the KMC Act would be brought in the form of an ordinance. Once the governor clears the ordinance the elections to the committees would be held.

Replying to a question, Ashok said digging borewells was inevitable to address the drinking water crisis in the City.
The problem would be solved only after Cauvery water flows into newly added areas, he added.
