The petition was filed by Raj Kumar, chief of Daulatpur village, who sought registration of a cheating case against Bachchan, his daughter-in-law Aishwarya Rai and three others. Based on this, the court in Baranbanki has asked the police to conduct a probe and submit report in 10 days.

A graduate college for women, named after Aishwarya Rai-Bachchan, was to be built on the land Bachchan had promised. The foundation stone for it was laid on January 27, 2008, in the presence of high profile personalities like Samajwadi Party Chief Mulayam Singh Yada, former SP general secretary Amar Singh, former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu and Union Minister Farooq Abdullah.

“The failure of Amitabh Bachchan and Aishwarya Rai-Bachchan to transfer the land tantamounts to cheating the villagers of Daulatpur and hence a case must be registered against them,” the petitioner contended in her application filed in the court on Thursday.

Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate, Shiv Chandra Yadav, after hearing the application, ordered the Barabanki police to conduct an investigation and submit a report to the court by June 10. The matter will be heard on the same day.
