Sathihalli illicit liquor business tips people's patience

 ‘What can be done? We are not able to do anything. People are spoiling their health by drinking illicit liquor. After consuming they can not work. Police are aware of illicit liquor business in the colony,” they said.

Sathihalli colony comes under Sathihalli Gram Panchayat and has 140 houses. This is the biggest colony in Aldoor hobli with all the basic facilities. Every household has developed nursery of silver oak, coffee, arecanut, pepper saplings in their tiny land and are giving importance to development. However, illicit liquor is taking away all the development which the colony had.

“Illicit liquor is considered as enemy of Dalits. The senior citizens in the colony have become addicted to this form of liquor. The poor are spending all their earnings on illicit liquor. The illicit liquor business is being carried out unabated for the last several years,” alleged villagers.

The illicit liquor business is being carried out in a systematic way in the colony. It is alleged that some shops in colony sell illicit liquor.

In the last two months, six persons have died after consuming hooch. Some of the alcoholics are suffering from ill health and are counting their days. As the head of the family is spending earned money on the hooch, it is affecting the students are pursuing their education and forced to work as child labourers.

“District administration should put an end to illicit liquor business in our colony. If Dalits are continued to made to drink this poison, then we will stage fast on to death protest in front of DC office.,” said women of the colony.
