She endured it all, till she was rescued on Tuesday afternoon by the Makkala Sahaya Vani, along with the JC Nagar police.

Her employers had not hesitated to beat her with a metal spatula. A daughter of an auto driver, Noor living in Shamanna Garden, she could not remember since when she was pushed into this profession. Her two brothers, who are older and younger to her, are fortunate enough to go to school.

However, her nightmare ended on Tuesday afternoon, when the staff from Makkala Sahaya Vani along with JC Nagar police rescued her from the house located near Mufiza Apartments, 12th Cross, Chinnappa Garden.

Tired of listening to Shabana’s heart wrenching cries when being beaten up often one of the neighbours complained to the child helpline on Tuesday morning.

Bruises on legs, hands

Shabana said she does not remember since when she has been working in the house but her injured hands and legs bear a testimony to the trauma the young girl had to face. There are bruises and abrasions on her feet.

She was forced to sleep in the cleaning room. Hema Deshpande, in-charge of the child helpline, said that Shabana would be taken to Child Welfare Committee (CWC) on Tuesday.

CWC will also send notice to both the employer (whose identity is not known) and the parents. She will then be sent to Shishu Mandir, a home for rescued children near Dairy Circle for the night, said Hema Deshpande.

"When we rescued her she had not eaten anything. She started opening up slowly after she was made to eat," said Deshpande.

The JC Nagar police confirmed the incident and said that they have received a report from Makkala Sahayavani.

Ascertaining identity

The police are trying to ascertain identity of those who had employed the child based on the details given by the Sahayavani staff and initiate action as per the law, said JC Nagar SI Tanveer Ahmed.

The local police should enquire into the matter in detail and register a case against the employer. Ascertaining the identity of the employer would not be tough task, said  Alok Kumar, Joint Commissioner of Police (Crime).
