The wonderwork happened at Dasappa Hospital. The Palike had assigned one G Manjunath to construct the stores department in the first floor of the hospital building.

The cost of the  project was Rss 20 lakh but on the pretext of cost escalation, the contractor managed to get an extra Rs 5.5 lakhs.

Thus he furnished the total bill of Rs 25.5 lakh and the AEE of the South Zone sanctioned the bill and pushed it for payment.

The AEE also cleared the bills worth Rs 44 lakh to a contractor for constructing a wall, which was never constructed. The MLA and the corporator of the area came to know about it and asked the Commissioner to look into the matter.

On Tuesday, the Mayor visited the spot with the Engineer-in-Chief, corporators and the media persons and showed the substandard work.

“There are no windows, doors, wiring, flooring and paining but yet the contractor claimed full amount stating that the work is completed and the engineer put the bills for clearance,” said Mayor.

He said he would not spare the Assistant Executive Engineer and would suspend him immediately.

The Mayor directed the AEE to come before him but he did not turn up.
