At a meeting convened here to take stock of development activities at the stadium, District Youth Welfare and Sports Officer Ramesh said that the State government, in its budget for the year 2010, earmarked Rs 6 crore to convert 400 mtrs track into synthetic track and Rs 3.25 crore for astro turf of Hockey stadium. The DC asked the officer to call tender and start the works at the earliest.

Executive engineer of Mysore Urban Development Authority said that it had earmarked Rs 50 lakhs for the construction of a swimming pool. But the money is unspent due to dispute over the site identified for the pool. However, the youth welfare officer contended that the department had already taken into possession alternative land for this purpose by duly paying compensation. “There is no dispute whatsoever in this regard”, he added.

The DC directed the authorities concerned to prepare a plan and estimate afresh for Rs 2 crore available for the construction of swimming pool. The wooden floor and lighting arrangements inside indoor stadium and painting work should be taken up from the funds of MUDA and complete the works before Dasara celebrations. The amount could be later adjusted with the Department of Youth Services and Sports, he instructed.

The officers of Education Departments were asked to make students of government schools in the surrounding areas of Chamundi Vihar Stadium to practice Kabaddi, Basketball and other sports  daily. The studens of Sports Hostels should allow others to utilise the services available in the stadium after their practice, Gupta added.
