Addressing a press meet, he said there is no need to set up separate university for the study of Sanskrit. Sanskrit study centre or endowment was sufficient. The development of Kannada language will have a set back with the setting up of Sanskrit University, he opined.
Divisional sammelan
Kannada Sahithya Parishat has decided to organise four divisional Kannada Sahithya Sammelan. Janapada samavesha will be held on June 13 and 14 at Gulbarga. Youth convention will be held at Dharwad, childrens’ convention at Hassan and women’s convention at Ramnagar in Bangalore division. All the conventions will be held by July end.
Dr Prasad said Rs 10 lakh has been raised from ‘Kannada nidhi’ yojane. Kannada Sahithya Parishat is financially secure now. The membership has been increased from 62,000 to 1.16 lakh. He said government’s decision to introduce compulsory Kannada medium education from first to fourth standard is correct. “We can not teach Kannada without teaching Kannada in primary level.”
