“Entrepreneurs face difficulties in getting bank loans because this is a perishable goods industry,” Food Processing Industries Minister Subodh Kant Sahai said here on Friday.
“Hence, we are looking at a separate venture capital fund or a bank for this,” Sahai said.
The venture capital fund was one of the suggestions that were put forward to the minister in the meeting with the CII.
According to the “India Food Report 2008” of markets data provider Research and Markets, the Indian food industry is estimated at over $182 billion of the country’s retail sector.
