Four die in bus-lorry collision

The deceased are bus conductor Kulkarni(45),  Ambigeri (38), Bharathi Vishnu Padaki (48) of Muddebihal and Gurulingaiah (60) of Koppal district.

Bus driver Narayan Bheemappa Dasar, P M Chandrashekharaih, G V Veeramma, Shivani V Padaki, Nagaraju and lorry cleaner Ambela of Hariyana were severely injured and were shifted to Bangalore for  treatment.

The NEKSRTC bus travelling from Bangalore to Bijapur had had a flat tyre near Metikurke and the driver was changing the tyre, having pulled over the bus aside. Four persons were standing in front of the bus and were watching the driver.

A speeding lorry rammed the bus from behind and driver Narayan’s both hands and legs were severed.

The other three standing were caught under the bus and two died on the spot. Bharathi Vishnu Padaki died in the Hiriyur general hospital.

PSI Girish rushed to the spot immediately after getting the news and he along with others pulled out the bodies from under the bus.

In a heart rending moment, driver Narayan whose hands were severed, asked Girish to call a relative on the mobile and begged the relative to “please come soon, six are dead, my body is partly alive”.

District Superintendent of Police Labhuram, DySP N Rudramuni visited the spot.

Treatment in dark

When the injured were brought to the general hospital there was no electricity supply as the transformer was burnt down.

The doctors administered first aid amidst lamp light and sent them to Bangalore for further treatment.
