He was speaking at the Pratibha Puraskar-2010 organised by the Akhila Bharatha Veerashaiva Mahasabha in the city on Sunday to felicitate 62 students from SSLC and PUC, who secured more than 85 per cent marks.

Commending JSS institutions for running several educational institutions, Mahadevprasad said that students from Karnataka are doing well because of the excellent education being provided here.

Observing the increasing competitiveness in the country, he said parents find it difficult to get their wards to pursue higher education if they score less than 85 per cent. Schools and colleges should provide 50 per cent seats to meritorious students, but should also keep in mind economically backward students and those who are average scorers as well.

In a lighter vein, recalling his student days, Mahadevprasad said his aim during his school and college days was to only obtain passing marks. Advising students to make use of the opportunities before them, he said that more children should take up law and social service.
MP M Rajashekarmurthy, advised parents to provide proper education to children. He said, parents try to create assets such as property or pile up ‘stocks and shares’ for their children throughout their lives. Education is the only permanent asset, through which children can easily manage their lives.
