Recognition for talent

“This  function will be held to celebrate excellence in all aspects of music and felicitate the deserving composers and performers in the Southern music industry. We also want to acknowledge songs and albums that are of high quality but sometimes go unrecognised,” say organisers.

“The awards will be the first of its kind in the South and will be given to the best well known singers and  composers as well as to new and talented male and female singers as well as lyricists in all four Southern states,” said CEO Prashant Panday speaking on the occasion. The awards will be decided by a panel of illustrious personalities from the film music industry who have made their mark.

The chairperson of the jury is Hamsalekha. “This award is a great recognition for the musical talent in Sandalwood and will give a lot of encouragement to both established and budding singers and musicians,” said Hamsalekha.

There will be 18 awards in different categories including those for singers, lyricists, composers and new talent in all the four Southern languages. “After two successful years in the Hindi film industry, it is time to salute the hard work and talent that is prevalent in the Southern music industry as well. While most of the awards will be decided by a well-known panel of professionals in the music industry, there will also be a category for the popular choice awards that will reflect the opinion of the listeners. Listeners will get a chance to vote for their favourite album and song of 2009.They will also be given an opportunity to attend the awards night function,” they announced. Some of the jury members include Mano Murthy,Yograj Bhat, Manjula Gururaj, Nagathihalli Chandrashekar, Gurukiran, Raghu Dixit and K Kalyan.
