The agreements were signed at the end of the 16th session of the India-Iran Joint Commission Meeting that was jointly chaired by External Affairs Minister S M Krishna and Iranian Minister for Finance and Economic Affairs Seyed Shamseddin Hosseini.

The two countries signed MoUs for cooperation in New and Renewable Energy, collaboration in Small Scale Industry between National Small Industries Corporation and Iranian Small Industries and Industrial Parks Organisation and between Central Pulp and Paper Research Institute of India and Gorgan University of Agricultural Science and Natural Resources of Iran as well as a Programme of Cooperation on Science and Technology.

The meet took place just a few days after India voiced concern over the extra-territorial and unilateral sanctions imposed by the US on Iran and its direct and adverse impacts on Indian companies and, more importantly, its pursuit for energy security and development.
Hosseini met Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee and NSA Shiv Shankar Menon during his stay in Delhi.
