Getting charmed by cotton

The Monsoon Mela, an exhibition of cotton fabrics and sarees is on at Central Cottage Industries Emporium, M G Road, from July 16 to 25,10 am to 7 pm.

The mela will display the best of Mangalagiri block-printed sarees with zari border, which is a combination of Andhra and Jaipur (block printed) cotton sarees.

It will also have   thread border cotton sarees from Narayanpet (Andhra Pradesh), Shantipur woven cotton sarees and exclusive kota sarees from Bengal, tie and dye sarees (bandhini) from Gujarat and  Rajasthan.

There is an interesting range of display in silk as well.

There’s printed chanderi and plain chanderi with zari border — pure silk sarees from Madhya Pradesh, printed tussar, pashmina silk Jaipur sarees and block-printed Maheswari sarees from Jaipur, Rajasthan with border on silk/cotton.
