Gowda urges Guv not to give assent to Bills

After submitting a memorandum to the Governor in this regard at Raj Bhavan, Gowda told reporters that the bill is detrimental to a section of society. The BJP Government wants to target the minority community through this bill, he alleged.

Besides displacing thousands of people depending on beef business, the bill will discourage small farmers from rearing cattle. When the Government had first introduced the bill amid protests from Opposition parties during the budget session in March, the Governor had indicated that it will not be all that easy for the Government to make it an Act. He had openly stated that he is not in favour of banning cow slaughter.

Gowda further said he has urged the Governor to send back all the bills cleared in the Legislature without any debate. The Alliance University Bill, he said, will lead to total chaos. Any college can declare itself as a University, if this bill is anything to go by, he added.

The ruling BJP Government had taken advantage of Opposition dharna in both the Houses, and got nearly two dozen bills cleared without debate and discussion. The Governor has assured to take appropriate steps in this regard, Gowda said.
