Gowda meets PM, discusses illegal mining in Karnataka

Last Updated 20 July 2010, 15:09 IST

"I discussed with the Prime Minister how illegal mining is taking place in Karnataka," the former Prime Minister told reporters after the meeting.

JD(S) leader Danish Ali said the party chief also discussed the law and order situation in the state. "The Prime Minister's response was positive," Ali said.

The Reddy brothers and their alleged involvement in illegal mining have been a major cause of concern for the state BJP ever since it came to power.

In Karnataka, the opposition MLAs had staged a 'sleep-in' protest inside the assembly premises, demanding a CBI probe into the mining issue.

Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa, who was in Delhi last week, has ruled out a CBI probe into the allegations
