'Education alone can put an end to child labour'


He was speaking after inaugurating the children’s awareness jatha organised on the occasion of World Anti -Child Labour Day in the district recently.

Several families who are unable to provide for their family send their children for work at an early age. Children who earn their livelihood by working in workshops, hotels in turn help run their families, in this whole process their childhood is ruined and their future is rendered bleak, he observed.

Only way out

Speaking on the occasion PSI  Shivaprasad said that there are around 200,000 child labourers in the world. All these children need to be freed. Education alone can break them from the shackles of child labour.

N Vinutha, an officer at the Labour Department said that those employing children below the age of 14 yrs will be fined with Rs 20,000 and sentenced to 6 months of simple imprisonment.
