The accused are Suguna (33) from Virathnagar in Bommanahalli, Venkatesh (24) and Muruli (24), both from KP Agrahara, said the police.

Suguna was married to Venkatesh Rao 15 years ago. Rao was a worker in a shop on J C Road. The couple were staying in KP Agrahara till recently.

Four years ago, Suguna became intimate with her neighbour, Venkatesh, who is nine years younger to her. The intimacy soon turned into an illicit relationship, police said.

Three months ago, Rao shifted his house from KP Agrahara to Virathnagar in Bommanahalli after he learnt about his wife’s affair. However, Suguna continued meeting Venkatesh. The duo considered her husband Rao to be a hurdle in their relationship and decided to kill him. They hatched a conspiracy to carry out the murder about 20 days ago. Venkatesh discussed the matter with his friend Muruli who agreed to be the part of the conspiracy.

Rao was walking towards his house after work on July 12 at 8.30 pm. The duo kidnapped him from Journalists’ colony in Kalasipalya in their friend, Bhaskar’s autorickshaw. They took Rao to a isolated area in Gurulingaiah Layout in Jnanabharathi. They stabbed him several times on his stomach, chest and slit his throat and smashed his head with a boulder. They abandoned the body in a drainage and covered it with small stones and mud and fled, added the police.

Aware of husband’s murder, Suguna kept quiet for a couple of days, after which she lodged a missing complaint with the Kalasipalya police. The Jnanabharathi police traced an unidentified body in the drainage in Gurulingaiah layout. The Kalasipalya police who were trying to search for Rao got in touch with the Jnanabharathi police, leading to cracking of the case, police added.
