Wife, paramour held for man's murder

The Gangammanagudi police have arrested a 28-year-old woman and her paramour for killing her husband by strangling him last weekend.

The suspect, Varalakshmi, was married to Babu, who was unemployed and an alcoholic. The couple lived in Kammagondanahalli with their two minor children.

According to the police, Varalakshmi, working as a housekeeping staff with a private company in Jalahalli for the past two years, had an affair with her colleague Rakesh (23).

Fed up with her husband’s drinking and harassment, she hatched a plan to eliminate him.

Last Sunday, she took her children to her brother’s house and informed Rakesh that Babu was alone in the house. Rakesh sneaked into the house and strangled Babu, who was drunk, with a towel and fled the spot.

Varalakshmi returned home on Monday and found her husband lying motionless. She then put on a show of being shocked and created a scene over her husband’s death while hurriedly making arrangements for his funeral.

Finding her behaviour suspicious, a few neighbours informed the police. When the police initially questioned
Varalakahmi, she acted ignorant.

“But detailed questioning and verification of her call detail records revealed her relationship with Rakesh and the murder of her husband,” the police said.
