Jnanapeetha awardee U R Ananthamurthy, freedom fighter H S Doreswamy, Prof Baragur Ramachandrappa, K Marulasiddappa and G K Govindrao expressed their solidarity with the party which launched its padayatra here on Sunday, demanding a CBI probe into illegal mining in the State.

They said they were not with the Congress but were supporting its cause. They attended the inauguration of the padayatra and wished the Congress leaders a success in their struggle.

Stating that he didn’t belong to any party, U R Ananthamurthy said party politics was integral to democracy. He said, in the recent days the public had lost confidence and faith in the party politics. "I have come here to support the Congress padayatra because such efforts can influence the public at large regain confidence in party politics. I wish with this struggle the corrupt people, not only in the BJP but in all parties, are exposed," he said.
Baragur Ramachandrappa said supporting any movement against communal forces was a moral responsibility of all progressive writers and thinkers. Expressing his moral support to the padayatra he said, "I am not a Congress man. But, I am anti-BJP."

Freedom fighter H S Doreswamy said the administration in the State had failed miserably to control illegal mining. Ministers and MLAs have involved in looting natural resources. And, the Chief Minister, instead of taking action, is protecting such people, he said.  “Ore is our natural resource. We can’t produce the natural resource when we require. I am supporting the Congress padayatra because it has the objective to stop looting of natural resources," he said.
