Somdev run halted by Tipsaveric

The Indian qualifier fought hard but lost 6-7 (9-11), 2-6 to his sixth seed and world number 46 rival in the second round of the $619,500 hard court event.
Somdev collected useful 20 points by making the second round apart from 12 points from the qualifiers.

These 32 points have enhanced Somdev’s chances to break into top-100 for the first time in his career.

Meanwhile, Rohan Bopanna and Pakistani partner Aisam-ul-Haq Qureshi have progressed to doubles quarterfinals after beating British pair of Colin Fleming and Ken Skupski. The fourth seed Indo-Pak pair faced a stiff competition before scoring a 6-7 (3-7), 6-0, 10-7 win in the opening round.

Third-seeded Cypriot Marcos Baghdatis had low expectations for this week's but gave himself a welcome boost by beating American wildcard Ryan Sweeting 3-6, 6-2, 6-3 in the second round.

Baghdatis, who clinched his fourth ATP title in Sydney in January, fired down 11 aces on the stadium court at the LA Tennis Center before sealing victory in one hour, 50 minutes.

German veteran Rainer Schuettler became the first player to reach the last eight by battling past American Robby Ginepri 6-3, 3-6, 6-4.

Big-serving American Querrey, survived an erratic display over the first two sets to beat qualifier Kevin Anderson 7-6, 4-6, 6-0.
