Last Updated 29 July 2010, 17:16 IST

Addressing mediapersons in Bangalore on Thursday, the minister said the water level in Krishnaraja Sagar dam stood at 91.3 feet. The State Government will consider releasing water to Tamil Nadu only after the water level rises to 105 feet in the dam.

Bommai said the inflow into KRS dam was 33,840 cusec on Wednesday. It was expected to go up in a couple of days. As much as 3,000 cusec of water had been released daily in the last three days for drinking water supply in Mysore and to fill the minor barrages in the Cauvery basin.

Following protest by farmers the Chief Engineer of the Department had been directed to release water, only for drinking water supply.

Farmers had alleged that the water was being released to Tamil Nadu for irrigation.
Bommai appealed to the protesting farmers that there was no need to worry because the Government was not releasing water to Tamil Nadu. There was no need of staging protests, he added.
