Speaking at the district-level Malaria Co-ordination Committee meeting, she said the services of mobile companies will be utilised for the purpose.

Urban areas record more number of malaria cases compared to rural areas. The stagnation of water at the construction sites is one of the prime breeding grounds for the mosquitoes, she said.

She instructed the officials to identify buildings under construction and take measures to avoid water stagnation. The officials were also asked to serve notices to the erring building owners and also undertake fogging. Many people store tyres. Measures should be taken to see that water do not get stored inside the used tyres.

Stating that the release of waste water from hotels too contribute to the spread of malaria, Hemalatha said that there is a need create awareness among the hotel owners. There is also a need to create an awareness among school children on spread of malaria.
District Malaria Officer Dr Seetharam Shetty, DHO Dr M R Nayak, TB control officer Dr Ramachandra Bayari and other district officials were present.
