Woman hangs herself

A 24-year-old homemaker hanged herself at her house in Manjunath Nagar on Sunday night.

The deceased Sujitha hailed from Vellore and had married Vinod Naik three years ago. The couple have an eight-month-old baby girl.

“The couple had been to a friend’s house for a birthday celebration on Sunday night. They had a fight over some issue, after they returned home around 11 pm. Vinod went out to have a smoke, while Sujitha locked herself up in the house and hanged herself. Vinod broke open the door and gained entry, since there was no response to his repeated knocks. However, Sujitha was dead by then. The child was sleeping in a room,” the police said.

The victim’s relatives accused Vinod of harassing his wife and said the victim had attempted suicide in the past too.  However, Vinod rejected the charges and claimed that he only scolded his wife for thrashing the child. Police have detained Vinod for questioning.
