“The botanical garden will be upgraded to international standards and trees will not be axed in future. The proposed Rock Garden will be developed only to beautify the place and not to destroy the ambience of the garden” the minister said here on Friday. He was speaking after inaugurating flow show at Lalbagh.

The minister said that there are proposals to construct food court and fountains inside Lalbagh which will be taken up after a discussion with the Lalbagh Walkers' Association. A meeting will be called in the next 15 days to discuss the matter, he said.

Basic amenities

Horticulture Minister Umesh Katti called upon people to visit Lalbagh during the next 10 days to have a look at the flower replica of India Gate. He said attempts are being made to provide amenities at Lalbagh. “ We have already provided drinking water and toilets which people had complained about,” he said.

Katti said few of the 18 university farms under the Horticulture department will shortly be privatised.  Mayor S K Nataraj was also present.
