State athletic meet

Events will be held for Under-14, Under-16, Under-18, Under-20 besides men and women, with the juniors vying for a place in the State team for the South Zone meet at the same venue from August 19 to 21. “We had tremendous response when we conducted the meet last year at the Sports Authority of India, with 17 meet records being created. We are hoping for a better competition this time,” said Ashwini Nachappa, President of BUDAA, at a press conference here.

Department of Youth Service and Sports are the main sponsors of the meet, with support coming in from Canara Bank and Jain Group of Insititutions as well. Ashwini said a team of 40 athletes from Sri Lanka will compete in the meet for which 850 entries have been received so far. “We are expecting about 1200 athletes for the meet,” she said.
