N I Singh (23) and Dinesh (22) are the arrested. Another suspect Sunil Kumar is absconding.
The police have registered two cases against them. The incident happened when Head Constable Lingappa and Constable Dhoni were checking people for drunken driving around 11.30 pm at Gangammana Circle. Singh, Dinesh and Sunil Kumar, who came in a bike failed to produce vehicle documents when the police stopped them.
Moreover, they allegedly started using abusive language. One of them hit Lingappa with his helmet, while another tried to snatch away a rifle from Dhoni. Lingappa called up the station and requested to send more staff. Sunil fled when more staff arrived on the spot, added the police.
