As many as 2,500 policemen including 10 Deputy Commissioners of Police were deployed in and around the parade grounds where Chief Minister Yeddyurappa unfurled the national flag. Closed circuit televisions cameras were installed around the parade gounds which was declared a sterile zone. Sky sentries were posted atop high-rise buildings in the locality.

Only invitees were allowed inside after through frisking and making them pass through doorframe metal detectors. A few invitees were seen having heated arguments with the police. But, despite the tight security, the turnout was full. There was not a single vacant seat available.
