The incident occurred around 3:20 pm near Sankrail station in the Howrah-Kharagpur section when the Howrah-bound East Coast Express and a Panskura-bound local train came on the same track, a spokesperson of the South Eastern Railway said.
The driver of the local train overshot the signal, however, realising the mistake he stopped the train immediately. The driver has been suspended and an inquiry has been ordered.
