HSBC on hiring spree, announces a slew of senior appointments

Patni will report to Rakesh Patel, Managing Director, Head of Equity Sales and Trading, Asia-Pacific. Prior to joining HSBC, Patni was an Executive Director at JP Morgan India.

Announcing other appointments across its equity functions within Global Markets in the Asia-Pacific region, HSBC said that Gerardo Pablo has joined it as Head of Program Trading for Asia-Pacific from BNP Paribas where he was Head of Global Portfolio Trading, Asia-Japan. Pablo will be responsible for managing and executing Program Trading in the region and will report to Gavin Williamson, Head of Execution Trading, Asia-Pacific.

Alex Lupis has been appointed as Head of Corporate Access, Asia-Pacific and will be responsible for managing and marketing HSBC's Asia-Pacific Corporate Access products globally. He will report to Patel, the release said, adding that Lupis was previously Head of Corporate Marketing at Citi. Another appointment is that of Sung Choi, who has been appointed Head of International Equity Sales.

Based in Korea, Choi will be responsible for managing the distribution and sale of Korean equity products to institutional investors in Asia, the US and Europe.
He will report to Chehee Han, Managing Director, Head of Equities in Korea. Choi was previously a Vice-President at Morgan Stanley.

Also joining the equity team as Directors of Equity Sales in HSBC Singapore are Michael Gilmore and Sujit Sahgal. Gilmore worked as Managing Principal at 3 Degrees Asset Management, and prior to that was a ranked regional consumer and media analyst at UBS and Nomura, while Sahgal served as an Executive Director at Bank Sarasin and was previously a ranked regional tech/telecom analyst at UBS.

They will report to Roland Wee, Head of Equity Sales, locally, the release said.Other recent senior hires include Andrew Lee, Senior Equity Sales Trading, Philip Hsu, Senior Equity Sales, Andrew Clarke, Senior Program Trading, Raul Barroso, Senior Regional Sales and Lauren Degney, Senior Delta One/Equities Finance Sales Trader, all in Hong Kong.

Soloman Chang has been appointed as Senior Equity Sales, Taiwan. HSBC's Group General Manager, Head of Global Banking and Markets, Asia-Pacific, Anita Fung, said, "Global Banking and Markets performed well in the first six-months this year and delivered its second-highest half-year performance ever."

"To support the continuous growth of business and gain market share, HSBC is leveraging its strong customer relationships in debt capital markets and building its equities platform by bringing in resources across sales and trading, advisory and coverage and also research and distribution," Fung added.
