Transgenders' call for action

Speaking on the occasion former minister Shobha Karandlaje said she was working towards creating a separate welfare board to address the needs of transgenders in the State.  

"A welfare board on the lines of the one set up in Tamil Nadu should be formed in the State, to cater to the problems of the transgender community. I am aware of the community’s poor living conditions,” she said.

The former minister also said that she wanted to raise transgenders’ issue in the Assembly through the Private Member Bill. Transgenders community need to be identified first, so that they can fight for their rights, she observed.
