'Congress will ensure 33 pc for women'

He was addressing the Mahila Congress convention held in Bangalore. Even though, the reservation issue is entangled in a mess, the women will be accorded with reservation. The responsibility of preparing right people for  reserved category seats rests on us, he said.

Leader of Opposition in the Assembly Siddaramaiah in his address said he would be happy if the women get 50 per cent reservation.

Women should not merely demand reservation. As elections to the local bodies will be held soon, educated women should be fielded as candidates, he added.

The conference was attended by All India Mahila Congress President Prabha Thakur, MLC Motamma. KPCC Women’s Wing President Manjula Naidu and others.

Protection to Reddys

Earlier, addressing a press conference Prabha Thakur alleged that BJP leader Sushma Swaraj during her annual visit to Bellary on Varamahalakshmi Day takes ‘Lakshmi’ (money) and gives protection to the Reddy brothers.

Sushma Swaraj is making baseless allegations against AICC President Sonia Gandhi. The Congress leader had kept her promise to the Bellary people by allocating Rs 3,800 crore for development of the district, she said.
