Workshop on Digital Hearing Aids at AIISH on Sept 2

The objective of the workshop is to educate hearing aids users on care and use of hearing aids; trouble shooting of hearing aids; and recent advances in hearing device technology. In addition, fine tuning of their digital hearing aids will be carried out based on their listening needs. Agri-scientist for Akka

City-based Agri-scientist Dr. Vasanth Kumar Thimakapura has been invited to attend and present a paper on “Indian agriculture-Today’s challenges” at 6th World Kannada Convention-2010, organized by AKKA (Association of Kannada Kootas of America). The convention will be held in Edison, New Jersey from September 3 to 5. AKKA Kannada conferences, typically attended by over 5000 expatriate attendees, provide a platform to network and promote both cultural and investment related opportunities in the USA as well as in India. These conventions also have a variety of cultural programs, consisting of music, dance and drama from well known artists from USA and India.

After the convention Dr Thimakapura will be visiting University of Wisconsin, University of Chicago and other research organisations and also visiting agricultural farms in the states of Wisconsin and New York.

Rice mills seized

District administration has seized eight rice mills of Mysore district for non-payment of levy rice for the year 2009-10. Cases are registered against the mill owners. Deputy Commissioner Harsh Gupta said the seized mills are Taj Rice Industries, R K Modern Rice Mill, Gangadharswamy Binny Modern Rice Mill and Rajalakshmi Rice Mill, all in T Narasipur, Nanjundeshwar Rice Mill, Srikanteshwara Rice Mill in Nanjangud Town, Prabha Rice Mill in K R Nagar and Mahadeshwara Rice Mill in Mysore. Officials  also seized 636.46 quintals of rice, 2,681.94 quintals of paddy valued at Rs 39.88 lakh.

Passing out parade

The passing out parade of 38th batch of women trainees will be held at the parade ground of Mysore Prisons on September 3 at 8 am.

Horticulture and Prisons Minister Umesh Katti will inspect the parade and receive the guard of Honour. Additional Director General of Police Kucchanna Srinivas and Deputy Inspector General of Police of Prisons P S Raj would attend the function.

Suggestions invited

Deputy Commissioner and Dasara Special Officer Harsh Gupta has welcomed suggestions from general public to celebrate this year’s Dasara celebrations with much more pomp and gaiety.

In a press release here, the high power committee has already decided to incorporate many new items to make the ‘Naada habba’ more colourful which include construction of a replica of Mysore Palace in park and holding several competitions. Suggestions to make Dasara to get entry into the Guinnes Book of Records, are also welcomed.
